714 Was the manager of the WA government’s illuminite mine on the edge of the salt lake. After WW11 the WA government closed down the mine (CHANDLER had a population of around 105, with the mine as the sole employer) and MAT had to retrench everybody. MAVIS told me he cried for three days.

Our family moved to ZAMBIA (then NORTHERN RHODESIA) in 1953: MAT, a metallurgist, left the WA government to join an international mining company operating copper mines on the COPPER BELT, and we stayed there until January 1960 when we returned to Australia (MELBOURNE). I think for Anglo American, something to do with bricks! MAT moved us back to Africa, this time Johannesburg in South Africa, when he joined Rio Tinto.

724 When Christie/Christy married Harry she was living at Alperton, Middlesex.
On the 1881 Census Christie is entered as Georgina BURGIN aged 4 years living with her parents at Marchants Farm, Bovingdon, Herts. [See under father Moses].
BURGIN, Christie Georgina (I1243)

725 When Emma married Henry she was living at 6, High Street, Alperton, Middlesex, the family home. The Witnesses to the Marriage were Colin William GITTINGS [father of Henry] and Kate GLENISTER [sister]. GLENISTER, Emma Jane (I285)

726 When Frances married James the Witnesses to the Marriage were John DAVIS x and Ann EAMOUR x [sister of James]. Frances signed the Register [Copy On File] with a beautiful flowing signature using the then "f" i.e. Francefs.CENSUS: 30 March 1851 [HO107/1693 Folio 426 Page 14] [Sch.37] Living Barracks, Whistley, Berkshire. Frances EAMER / Head / Widow aged 27 years Labourer born Hurst, Berks. Jane EAMER daughter aged 4 years born Hurst, Berks and Jonathan NORRIS Father a Widower aged 60 years born Hurst, Berks.NOTE: The family noted on the Census previous to Frances' entry are the daughters of Henry NASH and his wife Eliza. They are Emma [16], Ellen [14], Jane [11] and Eliza [9], entered as "Labourers daughters" living at Little Hill Cottages. Henry was the "partner" in James EAMOUR's crime and they were Transported together to the Swan Colony.CENSUS: 7 April 1861 [RG9/ 752 Folio 95 Page 19] [Sch.101] Living Barracks, Hurst, Berkshire. Frances EAMER / Head / Widow aged 30 years Ag. Labourer born Hurst, Berks. Jonathan NORRIS Boarder [actually Frances' Father] Widower aged 65 years, Ag. Labourer born Hurst, Berks. George H.C.EAMER Son aged 5 years born Hurst, Berks and Sarah Ann WHITE Visitor aged 17 years Servant born Acorn Street, Camberwell.NOTE: Sarah could have been a neice of Frances' husband James as his sister Mary Ann married Charles WHITE on 28 October 1837. George was Base Born son of Frances, his Father was a married man William CRESSWELL. Jane not with her mother, now aged 14 years [Born 17 June 1846] - where was she. [15.3.2006: See under Jane - found on "Ancestry" Website under Jane EMER living St. Marylebone, Middx as a Servant - Age 19!].CENSUS: 2 April 1871 [RG10/ 1288 Folio 105 Page 22] [Sch.130] Living at Pink Cottages, Whistley, Hurst, Berkshire. Frances HEIMER / Head / Widow aged 42 years born Hurst, Berks and daughter Ellen HEIMER aged 9 years born Hurst, Berks. Living next door, still Pink Cottages was William EDWARDS Head / Unmarried aged 29 years Labourer Born Basingstoke, Hants. William is shown at the top of the next page, Page 23. I would imagine that this was very unusual in this period of time for a single person to be occupying a property on his own, single persons were generally "at home" or in accommodation with a family or situated on a Farm. There were only five Pink Cottages, two of the others were occupied by families and one was unoccupied. The next place censured on Page 23 was Dunt Lane where on the 1861 Census William was working on a Farm, the Head was a Gabriel S. CLARKE - was William still working for him!NOTE: No occupation put down for Frances - was William supplying the Bread & Butter! James EAMOUR/EAMER died 16 May 1868 in Adelaide Hospital, Australia - obviously Frances did not know what was going on on the other side of the world - if she had, she may well have married William, she was indeed a Widow in 1871. James was Semi-literate so doubt if James ever wrote to Frances and doubt if Frances ever knew what happened to James once he had left England - probably aware he would never be able to return to England Frances found another partner in William after her affair with married man William CRESSWELL. Cannot find Jane EAMER on this Census, she was probably working and living somewhere in London where she married. [15.3.2006: Se under Jane - found on "Ancestry" Website under Jane EAVERS Aged 24, a Servant living Paddington, London].CENSUS: 3 April 1881 [RG11/1309 Folios 57 & 58 Page 44 & 45] [Sch.235] William & Frances living 78, Blenheim Road, Reading, Berkshire which is between London Road and Erleigh Road. Living in Household of Frederick DOUGLAS a Lithographic Printer, his wife and their six children, the youngest being only 5 months old. William is noted as Head / Married / aged 41 years a Gardeners Labourer and Frances as Wife / Married / aged 55 years. Frances' daughter Jane had in 1872 married Henry GLENISTER at St. Marys Church, Ealing, Middlesex.NOTE: Frances was probably looking after the children of this household. On this Census William added two years and Frances took two years off. Their daughter Ellen was now also living in Reading as a Servant and later that year married Francis PROUT. Frances' son George, married, was living in Egham, Surrey with his wife and two children.CENSUS: 5 April 1891 [RG12/ 995 Folio Page ?] [Sch.174] 36, Pell Street, Reading, Berkshire. Frances living in the household of her daughter Ellen and her husband Francis PROUT and their five children. Frances is entered as Frances PROUT but put down as Mother-in-Law / Widow aged 67 years.NOTE: Wonder why Frances was put down as PROUT when it states she was Mother-in-Law to Head Francis PROUT! ones imagination can run riot here knowing the circumstances. Where and what happened to William EDWARDS - I doubt if we shall ever find out - so many with the common name of William EDWARDS - Death Certificates obtained and researching the G.R.O. Indexes have revealed nothing and brought researching William to a halt. Pleased to see that Frances, even though for only a while perhaps, was in Ellen's household, it proves she cared for her mother even though when Ellen's sixth child came along Frances had to go into the Workhouse where she eventually died.
SEE under William EDWARDS re 1891 Census - has he been found. Researching N.A. Kew 24.11.2005.
Frances EAMER was a Witness along with George HIGGS to the Marriage of Jonas NORTH & Mary Freeman NICHOLLS on the 12th October 1850. [Info Hurst CD]. George HIGGS was a Witness to the Marriage of Ann EAMOUR, probably a family friend.

729 When in England in 1956 Henry Clifton WILLSEA visited Worthing, Sussex, the library advertisements of the WILLSEA Bros. were in a trade book advertising Wine Shops in Worthing, Leamington, Warwick, before 1874, because that was when his father Montaque WILLSEA was born. They must have closed up and came to Australia before 1874, as his father was 3 years old when he came to Australia. WILLSEA Bros. must have left England 1877 for New Zealand then later returned to Melbourne.

The WILLSEA Bros. went to New Zealand for a time then returned to Melbourne about 1879. Henry WILLSEA and Francis Eggleston WILLSEA stayed in Melbourne at 48 Coppin Street, Richmond. One brother drove a bullock team overland to a mining town called Broadarrow where he contracted a disease that put him in the Broadarrow hospital where he died and was buried there.

The other brother was Captain of a cargo ship which came to Fremantle. Henry's father and he went down to see him but was too late. The ship was leaving the wharf as they got there. They did not see or hear of him again.

*******************

Henry Clifton WILLSEA was a pram manufacturer. From year 1930 to 1960 when he retired from business. Started in the depression times by working under verandah at home, 161 Guildford Road, Bayswater. Decided to try a retail shop, 31 Stirling Street, Perth, which he did for 12 months but hardly paid its way so decided to try another shop, 66 Beaufort Street, Perth; opposite Museum in Trades Hall Building, from there he never looked back. His business flourished so he bought property 229 Stirling Street, Perth and built a factory on it. Through the years he employed about 20 tradesmen and 4 apprentices.

He started the 'Clinic Pram Shop' and factory next to a clinic, with his 1st shop. He also had a shop in Leederville, 220 Oxford Street, sold as a Fish shop. He retired from business at the age of 59 in December 1960. Leased the factory for 15 years, then sold out completely because of high rates and business letting getting very bad.
He and his wife Jessie completed their fiftieth golden years [1929 to 1979] of perfect marriage together with their wonderful family, and hoped for many more years.

His main hobby was bowling and gardening.

The eldest child, Samuel, sailed with his wife Janet from Plymouth on the ship Omega on the 24th of May 1852 arriving in South Australia on the 24th of August 1852.

737 Williams birth father unknown. His mother, Mary SALMON, later married John BECKETT. William SALMON did not formerly adopt his stepfathers BECKETT name, but he and the family used it in public life, but not on birth, marriage and death certs. The family would not discuss why, but I found that a number of the SALMON girls, had become pregnant by their SALMON boy cousins who were already married, so the SALMON name was somewhat tainted.!! SALMON, William (I1811)

743 Youngest daughter of Benjamin Wickham of Wickham Park, ADELAIDE who emigrated to Australia.

A link at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=roncox&id=I14488 says:

"Benjamin WICKHAM (her father) served in 40th Foot under Wellington. Battles of Albuhera, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz & Salamanca. Awarded Military General Service Medal 1793-1814 with four bars. Pensioned in 1813. "Meadows Heritage" - 1983 - indicates he was a British Army Captain at the Battle of Waterloo. [It is unlikely that he attained the rank of Captain]

The Somerset Electoral Register, Eastern Division for 1832 (and also 1835) has Benjamin WICKHAM leasing houses and the Horse and Groom Inn at East Woodlands, Frome, Somerset. Seems highly likely that this is our Benjamin given his activities in Adelaide in 1838/39 (see below).

Benjamin arrived "Africaine" 12 Nov 1836 with wife Tabitha and children Eliza, Daniel R, and Lucy. Benjamin was present at the Proclamation of South Australia.

On 31 Dec 1838, Benjamin was granted a licence to sell wine, beer and other malt liquors. He owned Wickham's Hotel South Tce (Town Acre 691) in 1838-1839. In 1839, property to be 'let or sold'.

Benjamin also owned quite a lot of land at various times. Allen's Almanack 1849 has him owning 320 ac Hd Kuitpo, 584 ac Hd Willunga, 84 ac Hd Noarlunga.

In 1837 he owned Town Acres 691 on South Terrace, 609 on Gilbert St and 602 on Gilles St. In Noarlunga, owned Sections 725 and 726 on Onkaparinga River. In Hundred of Kuitpo, Sections 3509 and 3510, known as Clear Hills. In Port Lincoln, half acre allotments 25, 131, 197, 237, 262, 389, 422, 474, 764, 929, 941. Also 20 acre blocks 8 and 58. On Boston Island, half acre lots 66 and 115.

In the Hundred of Willunga, he owned Sections 568, 569, 572, 573, 574, and mentioned in his will, Sections 530, 722, 723, 533, 724, 725, 726. The Govt. Gazette of 6 Aug 1876 also shows Sections 717, 719, 720 and 301 in name of Mary Ann Wickham.

A newspaper obituary at his death indicates he was 104 years old at death. However, the SA Biog. Index indicates born 1791, religion Methodist." John Jennings J_JENNINGS@onaustralia.com.au
