168 | Dorothy McBEAN (nee EAMER) says 22.10.2005: As I was growing up, my understanding was that Aunt Carrie's husband was Jim Smith, the owner or manager of a pastoral property in the Murchison north of Meekatharra, and that she lived in Mount Lawley so that her three children could be educated in the metropolitan area. The first time the name DWYER entered the picture was when ROSE (nee HEAD), Raymond Smith's widow, saw fit to place his funeral notice in the paper under the name RAYMOND DWYER instead of RAYMOND SMITH. People who could have been expected to know what would have prompted her to do that remained silent, and the rest of us like Bill and myself were left to speculate. The best we could come up with was the theory that DWYER and SMITH were one and the same person, the name change being made to cover up some indiscretion in DWYER'S past. We will probably never know whether my three cousins were DWYERS or SMITHS, but I do know that Josie married KEVIN MCKENNA (an accountant) Nancy married JIM LEWIS (a station manager in the Murchison area of WA) and Raymond married ROSE HEAD. Bill (my husband) tells me that when he was reading the library book he copied from, after looking for a reference to Pop Eamer he came across numerous references to JIM SMITH as owning or managing a station near Meeka and he took it that the JIM SMITH mentioned was Aunt Carrie's husband. | WILLOWS, Caroline (I46)

177 | Eric's brother D.G.V. [!] contacted Eric after I had written to D.V.G. and sent me a long letter which I received on the 29 March 1985. Although quite an interesting letter it did not help regarding family names except that he said his Grandmother's name was Sarah - "that certainly was the name of her daughter - she had as far as I know three sons Albert, Ernest & George". I replied to his letter on the 22 May 1985 after I had done some further researching. I wrote to him again on the 27 April 1996 after he had telephoned me on the Easter Monday Bank Holiday when he informed me that he had recently lost his wife - I enclosed the EAMER Family Tree as far as researching had gone - I did not receive an acknowledgement. I wrote to him again on the 20 January 1997 and received a reply on the 29 January 1997. Although a very interesting letter no family names were mentioned [Grandson but no name] but he did say that Phyllis EAMER had lost her sister. He was involved with many projects and had not visited Shire Hall, Reading which he had proposed to do. At the time he was 79 years of age. I never heard from him again and neither did I write again. His address at the time was 24 Dene Road, Cove, Farnborough, Hants GU14 6BZ. [Letters in F.H.Correspondents Ring Binder File]. [Entered 6.2.2006]. | EAMER, Eric (I1244)

178 | Excerpts from letters written to John Geoffrey Eamer [18/12/1948] by his father Jack, while John and his wife [Lynette] where on extended holidays in Europe, during the last half of 1976. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [Date Sunday 1st August 1976 - Jack Eamer] Was talking to Old Jack and Mavis on the phone the other day. Old Jack is not the best but they are both going to fly to Adelaide about the middle of October for Joy's daughter's wedding. [Dated 10th October 1976 - Jean Eamer] Old Jack and Mavis where also thrilled to bits when they received their card from you, poor old Jack has had 7 weeks in hospital and is home again from last Sunday. I was speaking to him over the phone and he seemed very frail by his voice. But at 83 it's amazing he pulled through. [Dated Thursday 28th October 1976 - Jack Eamer] We went down and saw Mavis and Jack Willows while Rob [middle son] and June [his wife] were here. Old Jack is back home after 8 weeks in hospital and seems to have aged about 10 years in that time. He has lost a lot of weight and very tottery on his legs but I suppose at 81 you can expect him to start showing his age. At least he is all there in the head and still has his sense of humour. [Dated Monday 08th November 1976 - Jack Eamer] Poor old Jack Willows passed away in his sleep on Friday night - when Mavis went into his room on Sat morn he was just peacefully lying there. He rang me on the Friday evening about 5 o'clock and I am convinced he rang to say goodbye. He sounded very frail and fed up with everything and at the end of our conversation seemed to break down and his voice choked up. I told Mum [wife Jean] at tea that I didn't think he would last much longer and so we made arrangements there and then to go down in the weekend and see him but we were too late. Mavis rang on Saturday morning and when Brian [youngest son] called out that it was Auntie Mavis on the phone I knew then that he had passed away. Ray Smith as usual took charge of everything and made all the arrangements with the undertakers etc. Rose stayed with Mavis on Saturday night. Joy - Mavis' daughter - flew in from Adelaide about midday Sunday so Mum and I picked her up at the Airport, took her down and saw Mavis at the same time. She didn't seem to bad and enquired after you both so I think it would be nice if you sent her a card - I know she would appreciate it very much. . | WILLOWS, John (I49)

235 | Harry Willows was the last of the arcadian river dwellers on the Warren river which flows to the east and south of Pemberton before entering the Southern Ocean. He had been a stockman with the Duracks in their epic cattle drive from Queensland to the Kimberleys. When you compare the climate of the Kimberley with that of the karri forest, old Harry was probably the first of the true "alternative lifestylers" to head for the tall timber country. Today he is remembered by the name of an insignificant bush track, called "Willows Road." Extract from: TALL TREES & TALL TALES by John Morris & Roger Underwood WA resident for 65 years at death.
